Photographs 1922-1956

This series comprises approximately 340 sepia-toned, black and white, color photographs, and six negatives depicting ministry to African Americans in the American Lutheran Church (ALC) and coordinated by the ALC's Commission on Negro Missions. These photographs include images of individual congregations, training schools, and pastors and workers. There are images of people as well as houses of worship, parsonages, and school buildings. Photographs date from 1922-1956 and while there are photographs dated 1951 and later, which denotes the period when ministry to African Americans was coordinated by the National Lutheran Council, they were kept in this series for continuity purposes.
